ICHHA : The project is the very first initiative of APARAJEETA

The project is the very first initiative of APARAJEETA and its founders at personal level since a long time before institutionalisation. It is an inspirational method or strategy for sensitization of educated and economically stronger sections to take up a social responsibility on an individual basis. Ichha aims to work for eradication of school drop outs or unschooled percentage of population in micro steps by providing maximum possible support for one student from marginal families through one guiding family till the student successfully completes XII standard. Then it is followed by skill development training till she/he gets settled with regular earning. The project is designed to focus on individuals selected through a set of criteria from families with first generation learners.

Geographical locations:

Presently ICHHA Sponsorship holders are mainly first generations learner tribal students from Kolkata, Purbo Bardhaman and Purulia districts.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR “ICHHA” SPONSORSHIP AS A STUDENT?

Any student from class V to class XII enrolled in mainstream school can apply for it at any point of time in his/her study but the tenure of support ends at maximum of 3 years in post higher secondary phase.

IS THERE ANY SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE CHILDREN?

YES, HAVE A CHECK WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  • 1. THE CHILD IS ENROLLED IN MAINSTREAM SCHOOL (NOT ANY INFORMAL SCHOOL OR BRIDGE COURSES!)
  • 2. STUDYING AT ANY STANDARD IN BETWEEN 5 TH TO 12 TH .
  • 3. FIRST GENERATION LEARNER /PARENTS’ EDUCATION BELOW 10 TH STANDARD.
  • 4. ANNUAL INCOME OF THE FAMILY BELOW 2, 00,000 INR.
  • 5. HAVE CASES OF BEING DROPPED OUT IN FAMILY AT SECONDARY LEVEL.
  • 6. EAGER TO COMPLETE STUDY UP TO 12 TH STANDARD AND INTERESTED FOR ECONOMIC
    INDEPENDENCE ESPECIALLY FOR GIRLS.
  • 7. AGREED TO BECOME A SPONSOR AFTER SHE/HE STARTS EARNING.
  • 8. NOT RELATED TO THE RESPECTIVE SPONSOR AT FAMILY OR AT WORKPLACE (NO CONLFICT OF
    INTEREST!)

No single dispersal will be without verification from the bank or school or local forums through bank statements and utilisation details. It remains in the loop of thorough checkings so it will be unusual to get completely false information from all corners for a long time. If so ever, the sponsorship will be withdrawn in immediate effect.

It is not a support to brilliance! The sponsorship will continue for the student for a total count of 3 years on non promotion in the next class till 12 th standard. No idle days or years will be supported under this sponsorship programme. But circumstances will be judged thoroughly by the team and extreme effort will be exerted to bring back the student on track. If all the means fail then sponsorship will be ceased by joint decision of mentor, sponsor and APARAJEETA team.

APARAJEETA team will try to convince respective sponsor to continue till they ( the mentor too!) reach their point of achievement in building an individual settled into a respected and decent life by removing his/her barriers of opportunities. Thus to contribute in relevant index by erasing at least one under school and jobless count in HDI of the nation. It is unavoidable then APARAJEETA team will try to place the student to any other sponsor.

It is purely on first cum first serve basis after verification and home visit of the student whether the criteria match with the applicant. at the same time consent from sponsor & full transfer for the academic year is done by him/her.

Any indian citizen convinced with efficiency of the methods and transpareny in the process and with consent from his/her own family can be a mentor under project “ichha”.
